Local choir
You're new to town and are looking to meet some new people. In the local newspaper, you find an ad for a local choir. It meets every Tuesday. You used to be in choir in high school and haven't done it in a long time. Seems like a good way to meet new people. At the first session they only do vocal warm-ups. The vocal warm-ups, rhythmic and repetitive, but you get pretty good at it. After the session. Everyone praises you for your efforts.
After the 5th session The group is still doing vocal warm-ups but they're more regimented about how they're done. They've added in a few hand gestures to make it more of a stage play. Just as easy enough to pick up.
Another curious thing is everyone is in robes. We form a circle when singing. I don't mind the robes. They're actually kind of comfortable, but a circle is kind of weird. For a choir.
After the 10th session the leader says that next week is their big performance. You're not sure what he means because he's only done warm-ups and chanting so far. Less choir more chanting group. But everyone seems excited and for the most part, they're a pretty decent group. They said there was going to be a barbecue for the whole town afterwards. The whole town was going to be barbecued. Sounds like a great way to meet everyone.
(Basically you accidentally joined a cult because they needed one more member. They just told him it was a choir. But they turned out to be pretty decent drinking buddies. And some of them decide that maybe summoning an elderly God isn't the best thing when they could just be going to play ping pong and drink beer)
