Flowers shop

⭐ One of my favorite ideas from this project.

Short version

You are a flower shop selling flowers to townsfolk who love your flowers and tell you cute stories about who the flowers are for. While harvesting the flowers from the town, making the town more gloomy, making more demand for your flowers. (AKA cute drug dealer with flowers)

Long version

You are a flower salesman. You're in a very cute town similar to harvest Moon. Think cutie characters with a top-down isometric.

The game is split into two sections. First is collecting the flowers from around the neighborhood and the surrounding forests/areas.

The second part is selling your flowers to towns folks. The townsfolk are always really appreciated. They always have little stories about how the flowers made their day or who they're giving their flowers to. And it's always wonderful and wholesome. People are extraordinarily happy that you provide them with pretty flowers. Best part of their day.

Tight game loop. In the Mornings you go looking for flowers. Afternoon is when you sell the flowers. Each round is a full day.

After a few rounds, you realize that anywhere you pick a flower from, the flowers don't grow back. And after a few days that place starts to become grayscaled, losing its color. (Harvesting the land)

After a few dozen rounds, the town and the surrounding areas are all turning grayer and grayer. The town folks are more appreciative of the flowers that you bring them. They need a little joy in their life. Their dialogue is about how depressing the Town has become, and the flowers you sell are the small Joy in their lives. (Addiction)

Once the area has been completely cleared out of flowers and is turned entirely gray, you can move on to the next town and start the process over again. (Ravage the landscape and move on to the next town)

A design goal is to make the selling of the flowers part wholesome and enjoyable as possible, cute and rewarding, its the part that you want to play.

Maybe every species of flower you collect. Gets pressed into a book like the old botanical encyclopedias.

Maybe people request flowers of different colors and you get different points for the different types of flowers you get or arrangements.

Maybe you even collect flowers from the townsfolk gardens before they wake up in the morning. Then they come in later on and complain about someone who's taken their flowers. And they need new flowers for their house that they buy from you.

Dialogue

Early game

  • "These are for my sister! She just moved away, but flowers make it feel like she's still close."
  • "I don't know why, but having something alive in the house helps."

Mid game

  • "The mornings feel… quieter lately. These help."
  • "I don't go outside much anymore. I keep the flowers near the window."
  • "Someone took my flowers last night. I don't know why it bothered me so much."
  • "I bought these to replace the ones I lost. They're… almost the same."

Another game pillar is that you are never punished. Never be accused, everyone loves you and the service you provide. No awareness of your role, Gratitude intensifies as dependency grows. Being loved for the harm you enable.
